The concept of Snake traces back to 1976 with the arcade game Blockade, developed by Gremlin Industries. This was one of the earliest known iterations of the Snake formula. In Blockade, two players controlled lines (early versions of the “snake”) that grew longer as they moved across a grid-based screen. The objective was to avoid crashing into the opponent’s line, the screen’s walls, or one’s own trail. This simple yet competitive mechanic laid the groundwork for what would become snake game.
