Stop 3-Putting!

Stop 3-Putting
By: Roger Hackett
The most important element in medium and long-range putts is “distance control.” How do you go about knowing the correct speed? Here’s a fun way to conquer your speed control:
Take your putter head back one “putter head” or about 3″. Then stroke the ball normally. Next, see how many paces your ball traveled. If you step off 9 steps, your putt went 27 feet! For any putt inside of 27 feet, you only take the putter back one putter head.
If you’re facing a 60-foot putt, you would automatically know to take the blade back 2 putter heads.
Use this method before starting a round to determine the speed of the greens. For instance, your 1 putter head might go 30 feet on fast greens or 25 feet on slower greens.
With a little practice, this method is foolproof for conquering your speed control. Make sure to test it on uphill and downhill putts.
Soon, you’ll be putting like a pro…
