If you think resale shopping is just rummaging through dusty racks for hidden gems, think again. When you’re with Judy Todd, it’s a whirlwind of laughter, great deals, and martini lunches. Judy, a published author, retired magazine editor, and avid consignment shopper, brings her unique flair everywhere she goes.

I first met Judy while getting manis at LUXE Nails. She was a riot, laughing and chatting, so we became friends instantly and have been laughing together ever since. Judy’s resilience is inspiring. After becoming a single mom to three hilarious boys, including famous comedian and actor David Spade, she pivoted to journalism and built a successful career. No matter how much she had or didn’t have throughout her life, Judy has always been an avid consignment shopper with a knack for finding favorites. She also happens to be the mother-in-law of the late, great designer Kate Spade, giving her insight into the designer fashion industry. She knows what to shop for, where to shop, and makes friends with everyone she meets in the resale world.

We embarked on a resale shopping adventure through Scottsdale, exploring consignment, luxury resale, and vintage shops, and boy, did we have a blast! Judy took me to some of her favorite haunts, where the staff know her so well they are old friends. “My sons will kill me if I buy more stuff,” she jokes, clearly unable to resist the allure of fantastic deals. Don’t worry, Bryan, Andy, and David – her self-control was as solid as a rock… so much so that she should probably go shopping again. 😂

Turn Style Consignment Store: Judy's Treasure Trove

First up on our consignment tour is Turn Style Consignment Store, Judy’s absolute favorite. She can’t stop raving about the prices and the sheer variety of selections here, from home decor and furnishings to designer handbags. It’s no wonder the employees greeted Judy like an old friend; she’s been a regular shopper and consigner for many years.

We had the pleasure of chatting with Jessica Cordasco, the assistant manager, who shared the store’s philosophy with us. “It’s not just about finding great deals,” she said, “It’s about recycle shopping. Previously loved items gain new life as they’re upcycled to new owners. It’s a more sustainable way to shop.” Indeed, Turn Style offers a unique consignment experience where you can bring in up to 35 items at a time. Once they sell, you earn money or store credit to shop some more. They even offer pick-up and delivery of used consignment furniture starting at $85, making it incredibly convenient.

As we wandered through the aisles, we couldn’t help but marvel at the eclectic mix of treasures. From the perfect-sized martini glass (this one is just our size) to quirky frog sculptures (Judy found one and posed with it, of course), there was something fun and unique at every turn. Turn Style Consignment Store truly lives up to its reputation, offering both an enjoyable shopping experience and a commitment to sustainability.

Luv Luxe - Authentic Handbag Resale in Old Town

Our next stop, Luv Luxe – Authentic Handbag Resale in Old Town, was a handbag highlight of the day. This store is a treasure trove of guaranteed authentic luxury items, including Burberry, Cartier, Christian Louboutin, Hermes, Saint Laurent, and more. What sets Luv Luxe apart is their non-traditional approach to resale; they buy items directly outright and then resell them, eliminating the usual consignment process. The vision of owner Sydnie Cadenas is to have a highly-edited selection of authentic luxury goods.

Luv Luxe has recently expanded its offerings to include Luv Luxe Home, featuring great gifts like fashion designer coffee table books and candles. The store is currently under construction, expanding into the space next door, with a grand opening set for July 2024. We spoke with Nathan, the friendly sales associate, who couldn’t hide his excitement about the upcoming expansion.

As we perused the beautifully curated selection, it was clear that Sydnie and her team are passionate about providing an exceptional shopping experience. From high-end handbags to chic home decor, Luv Luxe is a must-visit for anyone looking to add a touch of luxury to their life.

High Society Resale Boutique: Designer Dreams

Our visit to the fabulous High Society Resale Boutique, proved to be a haven for anyone with a taste for designer clothes, shoes, and accessories. The store boasts an impressive array of luxury brands, including Fendi, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Gucci. I couldn’t resist trying on a pair of sparkling Jimmy Choo heels, while Judy found a Fendi bag that matched her outfit perfectly – we just had to snap some pics!

High Society also has a stunning selection of sterling, fine, and gemstone jewelry, making it a one-stop shop for all things glamorous. Open since 1984, the boutique has recently undergone a makeover under the new ownership of Beth McRae. Beth’s vision has transformed the store, blending friendly customer service with an upscale shopping experience.

Beth understands the thrill of discovering an amazing treasure at an excellent price. She and her team of seasoned professionals are experts at mixing high and low fashion, combining new and barely worn pieces to create unique, individual looks. Whether you’re dressing for a black-tie ball or simply elevating your day-to-day style, the staff at High Society have you covered. Their expertise ensures that every customer leaves feeling stylish and satisfied, ready to rock their new finds.

3 Vintage Chicks: A Treasure Trove in Phoenix

The last stop on our resale shopping tour, and another of Judy’s favorites, was 3 Vintage Chicks in Phoenix. This store offers a unique and fun themed shopping experience with their “Chicks Night Out,” held on the second Friday of every month from 5 pm to 9 pm. Shoppers can enjoy complimentary wine while browsing through a delightful mix of new and vintage items.

There’s so much to see at 3 Vintage Chicks that a single walk-through isn’t enough to take it all in. Judy and I found ourselves circling the store twice, uncovering fabulous jewelry, gifts, and home decor items at fantastic prices. The store boasts the best values in vintage, upcycled, rustic, and salvaged furniture, home decor, clothing, and jewelry. With a design team of over 30 creatives—artists, upcyclers, pickers, and DIYers—the variety and creativity on display are truly impressive. And, don’t miss the Hen House across the parking lot for all your garden and patio needs.

We had the pleasure of chatting with the friendly owners, Sue Clarke Nadeau and her husband Tom. “We pride ourselves on having close relationships with our customers—we know them all by name and have more return customers than any other vintage furniture shop in the area!” Sue shared with us.

The store is set up with creative vendors operating their unique booths, each offering a distinctive shopping experience. While you can’t sell items here, 3 Vintage Chicks is definitely worth a visit for its eclectic mix of vintage and new treasures.
